Special Azalea Tram Tours

Take a narrated ride around historic Mirror Lake and learn about the azaleas growing on its shores. Hear the story of the WPA workers who created the Garden and planted the azaleas. See thousands of colorful blooms and discover one of the Garden's hidden gems.
These special tours depart from the Visitor Center daily in April at 1:30 p.m.

Azalea Market

Take your own azalea home - our gift shop has a variety of different blooming azaleas available for sale in one and three gallon containers.  Select your favorite color and form from red to pink to white.

Azalea 'Varnadoe Pink'Enjoy a wine social with food and live music in a glorious spring garden.  Sample wine, beer and delectable selections from area restaurants.  Enjoy sunset tram tours through our beautiful blooming garden. WPA Memorial Celebration

WPA Memorial Garden sculpture - detailAttend a Ceremony of Remembrance at the WPA Memorial Garden as we celebrate our Garden’s roots.  Then, explore your own family’s roots at one of three genealogy workshops conducted by the staff of the Sargeant Memorial Room of the Norfolk Library (11 a.m., 12 and 1 p.m.).  This event also includes a special WPA History Tram tour.  Learn more . . .

Self-Guided Encore Azalea Tour

Azalea after the rainTake a self-guided tour of the 23 varieties of Encore Azaleas planted around the Garden.

These relatively new colorful varieties bloom in the spring, summer and fall. Some plants are well established and others have been recently added as they were introduced to the public. Self-guided brochures can be picked up at Baker Hall Visitor Center.
