Summer Camp is funJoin us for another fun spring and summer in the garden. With the central setting of WOW: A Children’s Adventure Garden, NatureKids camp offers countless opportunities to learn, play, and make new friends. With activities such as tram rides, nature hikes, and outdoor playtime the garden is the perfect setting for children to experience nature. Returning this year will be our popular “Pirate” and “Animal” weeks as well as other favorites and some new ones. Also we have expanded our popular pre-k camp to three weeks this summer. So mark your calenders and sign up early for a summer of fun.

NATUREKIDS SUMMER CAMP 2011

NatureKids Summer Camp is the place for outdoor exploration, friends and fun.  Discover the magic of the Garden through expeditions, games, stories, songs and crafts while developing a greater appreciation for the natural world.  Gates open at 8:45 a.m. for drop-off. Camp is from 9am-4pm. 
For 5-10 year olds (5 year-olds must be rising 1st graders)
Cost: $200/week ($175/week for Garden members)

June 20-24 Fun Science: Gooey and Green SOLD OUT  
June 27-July 1 Where the Wild Things Are Learn about garden critters and the plants that attract them here. Make bird feeders, butterfly art, paw prints and other critter creations.  
July 5-8 Once Upone a Time in a Garden Stories come to life in the Garden. Find Treasure Island gold, Charlotte’s Web and visit the worlds of Dr. Seuss and Harry Potter. Create your own storybook adventure.
(short week) Special cost: $160 ($140 for NBG Members)
 
July 11-15 Pirates Lost at Sea! Make pirate gear to wear as we navigate the waterways. Search for treasure, compete in the water Olympics, and learn about aquatic creatures and systems.  
July 18-22 Art Adventure Use plants to create natural sculptures, recycled paper, watercolor paintings, mosaics and other art. WOW becomes your canvas on “chalk it up” day.  
July 25-29 Amazing Race: Journey Around the World Arrive at camp each day and follow clues to discover a new exotic location. Create art inspired by Australia, Greece and the tropical rainforest of South America.  
August 1-5 County Fair Farm Week Learn about and grow your own fruits and veggies. Build a mini-farmhouse using recycled materials. Then, let’s go to the NatureKids County Fair!  
August 8-12 Be Amazed: Garden Games With the Be aMAZEd Summer Exhibit as inspiration, you will play Garden-wide versions of your favorite board games and also make a mini-labyrinth.  
August 15-19 Fun Science: Green Investigations Learn about everything from plants and animals to recycling and compost through experiments and scavenger hunts. Create a sculpture for the Eco-Kids Recycled Art Show.  
August 22-26 Best of Camp Rewind Can’t pick just one theme week? Choose your own adventure as we offer camper favorites from all summer. Spend one last week outdoors!

Little Sprouts Pre-K Sessions

These “mini-versions” of each theme focus on engaging the imagination through play. Stories, songs and crafts bring the garden to life each week.
Hours: 9AM-12Noon (Drop off as early as 8:45)
Ages: 4-5 (campers must be potty trained)
Cost: $100/week ($90/week for NBG members)

Leaders in Training Camp

Meet new friends, practice teambuilding and build leadership abilities. Leaders in Training spend a portion of each session shadowing Educators with NatureKids Camp groups to learn the skills to effectively work with kids. Leaders in Training who complete both sessions with positive supervisor reviews can attend two subsequent camp sessions as volunteers at no cost (normally reserved for children ages 14+)
Hours: 9AM-4PM (Drop off as early as 8:45)
Ages: 11-13

Session 1 June 27-July 1 Leaders in Training: Babysitting and Outdoor Arts Earn your Red Cross Babysitting Certification (valued at $60) and create traditional camp and garden crafts.
Cost: $200 ($175 for Garden Members)

Session 3 August 1-5  
       
Session 1 July 11-15 Leaders in Training: Outdoor Leadership Learn orienteering, low ropes challenges and outdoor living skills this week. Join your tribe for Garden Survivor!
