WOW

World of Wonders - A Children's Adventure Garden

9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

This three-acre garden is dedicated to families and children.

WOW has several distinct areas, each offering different interactive lessons, but all offering excitement, enrichment and entertainment.

 

Come prepared to get wet.  Shoes are required

 

teachingWorld Plaza – Splash your way around the world!  Through fountains, bubblers, foggers and jet sprays, explore the oceans and other major waterways on Earth. 

  

Discovery Peak – Follow the world's Trade Route and find plants from different continents.

Imagination Circle – Work together as a team to make this one-of-a-kind water fountain go higher and higher.  

The Dirt Factory – This is a great place to dig, climb, and explore.  Inside an oversized treehouse, learn about bugs, plant seeds, and well, play in the dirt!

Plant Safari – Tell time with your own body on a sundial, mark birthdays on a colossal calendar, and follow a trail through nearly an acre of wetlands, forests, grassland and desert areas. 

 

Passport Gardens – Explore different habitats from around the world and learn about the poeple who live there.  Don't forget to bring your map/passport.plants

Here’s where the trip will take you:

    1. Werowocomoco Woods - Eastern U.S. Deciduous Forest
    2. Oodnadatta Outback - Australian Outback
    3. Choco Rain Forest  - South American Rain Forest
    4. Ithaca Isle - Mediterranean Chaparral
    5. Serengeti Savanna - African Grassland
    6. Kamchatka Taiga - Northern Coniferous Forest

Exploration Station – An indoor classroom that is an ideal site for nature camps and birthday parties, and a unique amphitheatre is perfect for family-oriented concerts and performances. You will find restrooms and vending machines in this area.

WOW Guidelines for Enjoyment

We hope you enjoy your visit to WOW.  Please note the following guidelines.  While enjoying the fountain area of WOW please keep in mind that Norfolk Botanical Garden is an outdoor museum.

  • frgoWhen walking in the Garden, including the WOW Fountain area, shoes must be worn.
  • Children may wear appropriate clothing or swimwear when playing in the Children's Garden.  Because WOW is a Children’s Garden, swimwear is permitted for children only. 
  • Swim diapers are recommended.  Non-swim diapers must be covered with another article of clothing.
  • Children must remain in the sight of adult chaperones at all times. 
  • Please use the changing rooms or restrooms for your convenience when changing diapers and clothing.
  • WOW classrooms are not to be used unless for a registered event.
  • Water balloons, water guns, and other toys are not permitted in WOW.
  • Bicycles/tricycles/scooters are not permitted in WOW. 
  • Abusive, profane, and offensive language is prohibited.
  • Smoking is prohibited.
  • In the event of inclement weather, the fountains will be closed.  Mechanical malfunctions may also require the fountains to be turned off.
  • Garden Staff may enforce any unwritten rule as deemed necessary for the safety of all.
