Tree Replacement Program

We Need Your Help!

Damage from the Nor'easter 2009Once again, the forces of nature have savaged the Garden you so greatly love and enjoy. The November 2009 nor’easter storm left a swath of downed trees in its wake.  The area around Mirror Lake and Enchanted Forest were completely closed and there were many other large, fallen trees throughout the core areas of the Garden. We have included some photos that give only a small indication of the size and number of trees lost.

Volunteers help clean up storm debris, including this large tree stump. There are obviously considerable costs associated with the labor and equipment required to clean up the damage, and the replacement costs associated with replanting.  These are non-budgeted necessities just to continue operating the Garden and to bring it to a level that you can once again enjoy. Our bare-bones budget was already stretched very thin before this crisis. It is unclear how much this storm will cost us once our work is done, but these non-budgeted expenses will exceed many thousands of dollars. So we ask that you consider providing financial assistance to help the Garden pay for this clean up and replanting. Below are ways you can help. A tax-deductible donation of any size is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Donald R. Buma
