Panicum virgatum
Switchgrass is a perennial grass that is widespread in North America. It is produces tall, broad panicles of tiny flowers in the summer. It tolerates a wide variety of conditions and is often used in erosion control. Switchgrass can be found at the Norfolk Botanical Garden scattered throughout along the edges of the lakes and in the Native Plant Garden.
This species is part of the Southeastern Virginia Phenology Network.
